![]() There are jokes, but they're either jokes the characters themselves make, or they're jokes arising from everyday situations. We see the characters go to school, go shopping, go on trips, spend time together at home or in a club after school. These are slow-paced shows about everyday life. The classical examples for slice of life in anime are shows like K-On, Yotsuba&!, and Ichigo Marshmallow. (Pure slice of life is vanishingly rare almost all slice of life shows have drama or comedy elements, but they're the kind of little dramas and jokes that arise in mundane life, not huge scripted events.) One could argue that The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is slice of life, though I consider it more of a drama. It is naturalist, and in some sense it's about everyday experiences in a war zone, but the war zone setting is not mundane to the characters at all. For this reason, The Hurt Locker is not slice of life. That's still slice of life the important thing is that the experience is mundane to the characters, within the setting. They might be naturalist works about everyday experiences somewhere where every day is very different from what audiences know. So what does this have to do with slice of life? Wikipedia defines slice of life as "the use of mundane realism depicting everyday experiences in art and entertainment." Essentially, slice of life works are naturalist works which are about mundane, everyday experiences. Some works which never reach outside the bounds of real life are nevertheless theatrical, as we see with Hana Yori Dango and Rurouni Kenshin (to an extent). Some fantasy and science fiction works are naturalistic. Note that this has nothing to do with genre. In film, the style of The Hurt Locker is called cinema verité it's also used to interesting effect in the far less realistic District 9. The events of the film mean what the viewer thinks they mean there's no sense of a writer behind it, more of an editor or reporter, who presents certain "factual" events for our consideration. ![]() There is no sense of dramatic import or fate behind the events of The Hurt Locker-at least, the film does not attempt to impose one on the audience. The American films The Hurt Locker and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel are naturalistic, despite the former taking place in a war zone. Most other shoujo romances are also theatrical. The conflicts here are interpersonal and revolve around romance rather than the physical conflicts of Rurouni Kenshin, but the characters are nonetheless larger than life and the plotlines carefully architected. The shoujo manga Hana Yori Dango is also theatrical. Most other shounen action shows (Naruto, One Piece, Dragon Ball Z, Yu Yu Hakusho) are also theatrical. ![]() Although it (for the most part) sticks to the realm of possibility, the characters, their internal struggles, and their interpersonal conflicts, are highly dramatized and expressed through epic clashes that affect the fate of an entire nation. So I've used American films as examples of naturalism, because I want to be clear that slice of life is a subset of naturalist, not an equivalent term.) (It's hard to find examples of naturalistic anime which aren't also slice of life, because, well, it's anime it's inherently unnatural. They can still have conflicts, plots, and interesting characters, but those things will all tend to be truer to life and less artificed. By contrast, naturalistic works try to tell stories which develop the way things tend to develop in real life. Theatrical works use dramatic conflicts, larger-than-life characters, architected plotlines, and other artificial manipulations of events and causality to tell a story which the audience will find interesting. You can think of all media as falling on a spectrum between theatrical and naturalistic. Like everything in literary and film criticism, this is all pretty subjective, so people will differ on whether they think an individual series qualifies as slice of life under this definition or not, but the concepts should be pretty universal. Toshinou-san's answer covers the general sense of the term very well, so in this answer, I'm going to try and fit it more into a critical framework, which can be helpful for understanding whether a given individual work is slice of life. ![]() This term actually originates outside of anime, but it's rather common for anime to have slice of life elements, so it's a common term in the anime fandom. ![]() ![]() ![]() When you Heart Chakra is opened and balanced, you are able to give and receive love. The Base layer is thinner and lightly doped so as to reduce the number of recombinations in the base layer, ensuring electrons/holes reach the CB junction. When forward biased the electrons (in case of NPN) and holes (in case of PNP) get thermally excited causing them to break the depletion layer and enter into the Base layer and recombine with holes or electrons depending upon the type of transistor. In a typical operation, the BE-junction is forward biased, which means that the P-type layer is at a more positive potential than the N-type layer, and the BC-junction is reverse-biased. The Emitter terminal emits charge carriers, which are electrons in the case of NPN type and holes in the case of PNP type BJT.Ĭharge flow in a BJT is due to the diffusion of charge carriers across a junction between two regions of different charge carrier concentrations. The Emitter region is highly doped while the Collector has balanced doping. The Base region is slightly doped and is thinner as compared to other regions. The PN junction that connects the base and emitter region is called the BE-junction while the junction connecting the base and collector is called the BC-junction. Two PN junction diodes are sandwiched together to form a BJT. In other words, a BJT is formed by a "sandwich" of extrinsic semiconductor materials placed back to back. Hence they are widely used as amplifiers and switches in electronic equipment such as mobile phones, industrial control, television, and radio transmitters.Ī bipolar junction transistor is created by combining two doped semiconductor materials that are back-to-back. Another important application of BJT is switching circuits. The primary function of a BJT is to amplify current, which allows BJTs to be used as amplifiers. The three terminals of the BJT are the base, the collector, and the emitter. What is a BJT?Ī Bipolar Junction Transistor (BJT or BJT Transistor) is a three-terminal semiconductor device composed of two P-N junctions that can amplify or magnify a signal. ![]() ![]() Competition with man and livestock, as well as changes in the environment, led to the horse moving east to Asia, and eventually becoming extinct in the wild. ![]() Richmond finds him, they fight and Richmond kills him and becomes the first Tudor monarch, Henry VII.Przewalski's horses once ranged throughout Europe and Asia. ‘My kingdom for a horse’ is the last we hear from the pathetic, villainous Richard III. We find the shifting significance of things in our lives, too, and that’s what really makes it such a universal phrase. Without one he faces defeat and even death. A horse may be almost meaningless to a king in a time of peace, but indispensable in a battle. Any one of those things could be either significant or insignificant at different times. Material objects around us in our lives are many and variable. The phrase is so striking and memorable that it’s become one of Shakespeare’s most recognisable quotes. Because the phrase refers specifically to a horse it is not often used but is the concept behind such sayings as “I would give my right arm for a drink right now,” or “I would give a month’s pay for some shade,” – modifying Shakespeare’s line for one’s own circumstances. It’s meaning refers to being prepared to give anything for some small thing one needs above all else. The idea of a king wanting a horse so badly that he would give his whole kingdom for one is an overstatement, and ‘My kingdom for a horse’ is a now very well-known quotation. Leading up to that he rushes about the battlefield killing everyone he meets, shouting, “A horse, a horse! Varieties with larger tomatoes are more prone to outcrossing because their large flowers are more open and the stigma may extend beyond the flower. Reports of outcrossing in tomatoes range from 0 to 5 percent, with substantially higher rates seen in potato-leaved cultivars. Therefore, measures to control cross pollination are usually not necessary. SAVING SEEDS: Tomatoes are inbreeding plants with self-fertilization usually occurring before flowers have opened. Tomatoes should not be refrigerated as it inhibits flavor-enhancing enzyme activity and contributes to an unpleasant, mealy texture. If any fall before they have ripened, place them in a paper bag or wrap them in newspaper and set in a cool, dark place, stem side up, until fully ripened. HARVEST AND STORAGE: For best flavor and texture, allow tomatoes to remain on the vine as long as possible. Excess nitrogen and/or insufficient phosphorous can cause tomato plants to become bushy and produce few blossoms. Blossom end rot is a common issue caused by calcium deficiency and/or insufficient water intake. Finally, removing plant litter in the fall along with proper crop rotation and tillage will further limit the spread of disease. Watering from below the canopy, mulching, and ensuring ample space between plants can also slow the spread of disease. To prevent common tomato diseases like Septoria leaf spot, anthracnose, tomato wilt and blight, avoid watering plants at night or on cool, cloudy days. Flea beetles, and other hard-shelled insects can be controlled with a simple homemade insecticidal soap solution.ĭISEASES AND PROBLEMS: Contact your local university extension office to learn which tomato diseases are most prevalent in your area.
